The SOGS right from its inception has been very close to our hearts. With the changing trends and the world becoming smaller, being available at our fingertips, we have to keep ourselves updated.
As it is rightly said, "Whoever ceases to be a student has never been a student." The App is being designed in a user-friendly format. It would provide the members with instant access to all the clinical activities future programs to keep the student in you alive.
Solapur Obstetrics and Gynecological society were founded on the auspicious day of Makar-Sankranti, 14th January 1981 at 9 am. It was founded next to Pune and Nasik as one of the third societies of AMOGS (Association of Maharashtra Obstetric and Gynecological societies).
The foundation was laid down with great efforts by a young secretary Dr Anjali Chitnis under the able presidentship of Dr V B Kulkarni. Dr Manjiri Chitale was Vice president and Dr Sampat Baldawa was treasurer then. This although was the second attempt to lay down the society, this time Dr Anjali Chitnis was sure that this attempt will take the society to full term, and will not be aborted. The ceremony was inaugurated by Dr V N Purandare, and the Dr R D Pandit, founder president of AMOGS presided over the function. It was a great moment in the history of Solapur Obstetrics and Gynecology society indeed. This function was attended by Dr Shanta Kirolasker, Dr Manjiri Chitale, Dr Baldawa, Dr Singi, Dr Mirashi, Dr Chindarkar, and other IMA members. Mrs Pandit had travelled along with Dr R D Pandit to grace the occasion. The society consisted of 20 members to start with and now the membership number has reached 136, is it remarkable expansion! Obstetrician and Gynecologists from Tuljapur, Pandharpur, Barshi, Akluj, Mangalwedha, Sangola, and Osmanabad joined the society.
Several clinical meetings were held to promote academics and share knowledge. The excellent course was designed for post-graduate students. Dignitaries like Dr Dasgupta from Jamshedpur, Dr Telang from Pune, and Dr M N Parikh from Mumbai had come to guide the students. From the collected monetary funds, then a slide projector was purchased and it was the first ever own audio-visual aid of the society. The enthusiasm was increased in students and teachers. The post-graduate Department of Dr V M Medical College participated actively in all the programmes. Teachers like Dr V B Kulkarni, Dr Manjiri Chitale, Dr Vasanti Munot, Dr Suman Sardesai, Dr Jadhav, Dr N P Patil, and Dr Anjali Chitnis contributed to raising the academic standard.
In the year 1985, Dr V B Kulkarni, founder president of the society had visited Japan for the conference. Then he saw the demonstration of the ultrasound machine and was impressed by it. He was convinced that this technology will add to the clinical acumen of Obstetrician and Gynecologists. He was impressed by its application to diagnose conditions like a vesicular mole, placenta preavia, and ectopic pregnancy. Soon he was the first one next to Mumbai to bring Sonography machine to Solapur. This raised the standard of care and services offered to women. Dr V B Kulkarnai and Dr Rohini Deshpande organized Ultrasound training workshop for fellow members in 1997.
Dr Kiran Shekhar, Dr Rammurthy, Dr Nitin Choubal, Dr V B Kulkarni himself and Dr Rohini Deshpande were the faculties. Varieties of image photographs were exhibited. The training was much appreciated.
We all were shaken by the sad demise of Late Dr V B Kulkarni our Founder president in 2009. His fond memories are with us to inspire us to do our best. Unfortunately, we lost one of our Presidents Dr Rajan Shah, Dr Kanta Baswanti, members Dr Smita Kulkarni and Dr Shashi Godbole –Joshi.
We all wish to stay together and look forward to great moments ……to cherish.
